San Diego Poisoning Its People: Is Your City Next

San Diego: Bleach Is Not The Answer

I’ve been asked: why cleaning? What got you into to cleaning? Do you like cleaning?

Personally, I clean to protect my family from microscopic intruders. And, frankly, I use cleaning as a means to make some money while simultaneously helping people in a real way.

Globally, I believe what we do in terms of cleaning continues to have profound effects on the human species and our many habitats–many of the effects, if not all, are negative and unwanted. Just as Elon Musk is determined to find ways for humans to leave a lesser footprint on Earth–and, quite literally, leave Earth–I am determined to enlighten people of better ways to clean; better ways to survive. Afterall, it will do no good for humans to live on another planet and take our destructive habits with us.

    Big Chemical Is Killing You

As humans, we clean every day. We bathe. We brush our teeth. We wash our hands. We wash dishes. We roll our cars through a car wash….What we think of “cleaning” has been taught, marketed, learned and conditioned since the dawn of man. We’ve been cleaning so long as a species that we may not even think twice about the chemicals we use, the equipment we choose or the processes we employ. Like unmanned drones, we go through our cleaning lives unquestioning of what we’re doing or what our goal is.

The danger in that is we allow corporate chemical companies to dictate what modern cleaning is, does, and what it uses. We let these companies get away with fraudulent, incomplete marketing campaigns where they pervert toxic-industrial chemicals for household-consumer use. Chemicals like bleach and ammonia were never meant to clean the table or floor our children crawl on; nor were they meant to clean the dishes we cook with or eat from. Somehow, these vicious chemicals have made their way into our “normal” human routine of survival and have become second nature to use in a cleaning crisis.

    San Diego Got It Wrong

Most recently, in San Diego, California, there was an outbreak of hepatitis A amongst the homeless population. Over 400 cases with over a dozen deaths. Something must be done to curtail the infection rate. However, when I learned the solution they enacted was to walk the city streets and basically power wash the sidewalks with bleach, I was absolutely aghast. This rang several alarm bells:

    • Bleach is extremely toxic–especially the fumes. Was there a thought about the negative health consequences that use of toxic chemicals will bring? Respiratory, cognitive and nervous system issues are well documented. Hospitals and doctors in the area should keep an eye out for an uptick in reported issues.
    • Power washers will only add to the bleach’s harm by spraying fine particles from the overspray into the air where those particles can travel several yards or more depending on wind. The spray will affect the air quality for a greater number in the city rather than just in the local area.
    • Bleach and other nasty chemicals have contributed to superbugs, like MRSA, in our society.
    • How and why is bleach one of the first things we turn to in a cleaning crisis? Chemical companies have major lobbying and marketing power. They are dictating which chemicals to use and when. Some conspiracy theorists may say these chemicals are being used to control the population….

As highlighted by San Diego’s response, the unchecked use of toxic chemicals is an extreme detriment to our health and society. Worse yet, there is no guaranty this method of remedy will work or has worked.

    Fight The Power

San Diego is just the latest city having to manage an outbreak like this. Is your city next? What will your city’s method of remedy be? Contact your city official’s and let them know bleach is not an answer. You just may have the power to keep your city’s cleaning resolution on a healthy, chemical-free path.

I’m in the cleaning industry to put the use of chemicals in check. A few of you will join me. It’s you I need to help spread the health and educate your family, friends and neighbors on proper, healthy ways to clean. Please share this post.

Allergy Symptoms Alleviated Naturally Without Drugs

Allergy symptoms can be alleviated without drugs or chemicals!

Are you one of the billions of people around the world who suffer from one or more of these common allergy symptoms:

    • cough
    • fatigue or weakness
    • itchy eyes
    • sneezing
    • sore throat
    • runny nose
    • stuffy nose

The list reads like symptoms of a bad virus or infection. However, common allergens in our home and workplace are the culprits in most cases. Our own dead skin cells, pet dander, pollen and dust mites can make us feel sick if we are constantly fighting them off. It only makes sense then that our health depends on how clean these environments are. After all, we probably spend about 20 hours or more per day in homes, offices, classrooms or vehicles.

Learn how to naturally alleviate allergy symptoms

It may sound trivial and obvious, but notice how clean (or dirty) your environments are for a minute. Take a peek behind your computer. Lift up your sofa’s cushion. Gaze at the dust bunnies beneath your bed. Look in shock at your car’s cupholder. Rub your hand over the top of your cubicle divider. Stare in horror at the air registers of your building’s HVAC. Do all this and you’ll notice you are spending your time in environments that wreak havoc on your health. It may not be the germs attacking your immune system, rather it’s the dust and other allergens that are the likely culprits.

A brief science: your immune system fends off outside intruders. Whether those intruders are bad germs like salmonella, staph or a cold virus or organic matter like pollen or pet dander, your immune system fights them all. This is where cleaning comes in. By ridding your environment of the pollen, dander, dead skin cells and even dust mites, your immune system can focus on more sinister microbes.

I share my thoughts on chemical cleaners in an earlier post, so I won’t get into why they shouldn’t be used. Instead I’ll focus on how you can improve your health–namely improve your allergies–simply by cleaning.

Below are some tips on how to clean and what to look for when cleaning so your time is well spent, your allergies improve, and your health gets better.

Reduce the allergens, reduce your allergies. What To Use

    • Vacuum. Vacuum. Vacuum – Do not use a broom ever again! Brooms kick up allergens and dust from the floor and put them into the air you breathe only to settle on every surface you just cleaned. Use a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner and floor tool (one with a brush) and notice a huge difference in the amount of dust in your home.
    • Use Microfiber – Put down the feather duster! Feather dusters tend to throw dust around just like a broom. Use a slightly-damp microfiber cloth since they pick up well and hold on to what they touch.
    • STAY AWAY FROM CHEMICAL CLEANERS! Nontoxic is Key – not only do nontoxic cleaners work well (especially probiotics), but they won’t affect you in the long term like chemical cleaners. Chemical cleaners are known to cause cancer or other issues and allergic reactions like: respiratory issues, cognitive impairment, skin reactions, etc. If you suffer from allergies, do not use chemical cleaners any more–they will simply trigger your symptoms and make them worse.

Pro Tip: Start as high as you can reach and work your way down to the floor. You may be knocking dust and dirt down below you and there’s no need to clean twice in one session.

  • Home Allergy Relief

    Home Allergy Relief

    HOME ALLERGY RELIEF

Allergy symptom relief is just a click away!

“Cleaning” is to remove soil, dirt, debris from a surface or the air. If you look around your home, do you see soil, dirt or debris sitting on anything? If you do, just know that it’s much worse in areas you can’t see. Perhaps your current cleaner forgot to get that area or they simply never get that area. The lack of thoroughness is contributing to your allergies. Luckily, with Germz Be Gone, allergy symptom relief is right around the corner.

Pro Tip: Most cleaning companies you hire will only clean or wipe things at shoulder height. Depending on the height of the individual, you could be looking at no higher than 5-5 1/2 feet. Be sure to specify the height in whatever agreement you have with them or you may end up disappointed in their results.

The problem is when areas are neglected they become hotbeds for dust and other allergens that will persistently trigger your allergies. Walk through the doorway, and the little bit of wind you create actually disturbs “resting” allergens on the lip of the doors molding, sends them airborne and eventually end up in your respiratory system. A similar concept can be applied to your floors, mattress, sofa and any where else you spend your time. See for yourself: rub a cloth on the top of your door and doorjamb and notice how much dust you knock down (consider it free allergy testing).

Pro Tip: Cleaning companies will not move furniture to dust or vacuum behind or underneath. Sometimes they may have equipment to reach certain areas, but to thoroughly clean an area, the piece will need to be moved. If you want specific areas cleaned, be a good customer and move the furniture yourself. Who knows, you may find that priceless earring, favorite bookmark or remote control if you do. Otherwise, hire Germz Be Gone and we do the heavy cleaning.

At Germz Be Gone we specialize in home allergy relief.

We recommend you enhance your maintenance cleaning every 3 months with our Home Allergy Relief package. This package is designed to coexist with your current cleaning company’s regiment or your own. We perform an extreme dusting and vacuuming of areas that need it most like your sofa and mattress as well as the areas that are hard to get like blinds and ceiling fans.

To finish up, we apply a probiotic mist your home’s air and surfaces. This helps tremendously in providing nontoxic, hypoallergenic sanitizing, deodorizing and allergen removal. What’s more, the probiotics keep working and protecting for several days.

  • Probiotic Cleaners Better Than Chemicals?

    Probiotic Cleaners Better Than Chemicals?

How I Discovered Probiotics for Cleaning

I talk a lot about probiotics. Not so much the dietary supplement, but probiotic cleaners themselves. Some may think I get sponsored by the manufacturer, but I don’t. Probiotics have become my favorite, go to cleaner which I truly believe in. They have changed the way I think about cleaning. After being in an industry for over 10 years, change can be difficult.

Putting myself through college as a janitor many years ago, we used some of the harshest chemicals known to man. For example, to strip floors of wax, we would use a solution of nearly straight ammonia. The burning of my nostrils and upper air way I can still remember today. That couldn’t have been good for my health nor anyone else that encountered those toxic fumes in the ensuing days. Couple experiences like that with my mother’s battle with breast cancer which was likely caused by chemicals in the environment (she is a cosmetologist), and I couldn’t wait to get away from the use of chemicals when I finally started my own cleaning company.

    The Search for Probiotic Cleaners

The search for effective nontoxic cleaners was a long and arduous one. From vinegar to “green” and “eco-friendly” cleaners, many of them were not effective enough to service my customers’ demands. Only the customers who understood the benefits of nontoxic cleaning stuck with me. The customers placing more of an emphasis on aesthetics rather than health didn’t last as customers very long. In order to grow my business, I had to find another cleaner that was both nontoxic yet extremely effective at cleaning.

Low and behold a great business associate of mine mentioned something about probiotic cleaners. I likened them to enzymes at the time and wasn’t a full believer until I did the research weeks later. What I learned about probiotics was mind blowing. I was literally up all night reading research studies, whitepapers, definitions, anything I could find about probiotics and how they worked because I was so fascinated. For instance, did you know probiotic bacteria can actually communicate with other microorganisms and influence their behavior (i.e. when to infect or not)? What chemical can do that?

    Experimenting with Probiotic Cleaners

After a couple nights of this, I finally bit the bullet and bought some probiotic cleaners to try from Chrisal. Once my package arrived, I couldn’t wait to put the new-found cleaner to the test. I cleaned old cutting boards we had laying around. They had just come out of the dishwasher. After a spray of probiotic cleaner, I could see layers of grime “melting” off the surface. The biofilm protecting all those germs was finally breaking down and exposing them to the cleaning agent and probiotic bacteria and finally being destroyed. I didn’t realize they were so dirty.

I went on to clean the whole house. Of which, the results were amazing. Plus there was no smell of fragrance or chemicals. That brings me back to the best part, for the first time in a long time I was able to breathe freely in my own home.

    Introducing Probiotic Cleaners

I had to introduce probiotic cleaners to my customers right away. The ones that stayed for the health benefits before now enjoyed a much cleaner home and office. The customers who placed an importance on appearance stuck around and finally understood and appreciated the benefits of nontoxic, beneficial cleaners. Many of them began looking for alternative methods of their own instead of using chemicals between cleanings.

With probiotics, I now clean for health. The great appearance of things is a mere side effect.

Healthy Probiotic Cleaning: How To Clean Your Toilet Like A Pro

In this post and many more to come, I will share with you the knowledge I’ve gained over the past decade so you can clean better, feel better, and live a healthier life. I will always stress the use of nontoxic cleaners, methods and means to achieve great results without the negative side effects from harsh chemicals. Without further adieu, let’s get started with Healthy Probiotic Cleaning.

Tools Needed For Healthy Probiotic Cleaning In Your Bathroom

    • Microfiber cloth (x2) – the thicker, the better. Thicker cloths tend to pick up dirt better and can more easily mold into corner and crannies where fingers can’t go.
    • Chrisal Probiotic Cleaner – by far the best product I’ve ever worked with. It’s organic, hypoallergenic, contains probiotics to clean and reduces ATP, lasts for days rather than seconds, extremely effective and a little goes a long way (dilution ratio 1 part :32 parts water ). Healthy probiotic cleaning at its finest. If you don’t have it, use another natural cleaner or a splash of vinegar in the commode.
    • Toilet brush – nylon bristles or sponge-head brushes work best. Try to stay away from wire brushes as they can scratch surfaces pretty easily.
    • Spray bottle – cheap spray bottles are available, but will break on you after a few uses. Splurge and buy one here or at your local home improvement center for a couple bucks.

    The Healthy Probiotic Cleaning Process

Now that you have your tools:

        • remove the trash from around the toilet and set the bin just outside the bathroom – be sure to empty the trash. A full trashcan next to a clean toilet isn’t a good look. If you’re looking for eco-friendly liners, I recommend Bio-Bags. They don’t rip and tear as easily as some other brands I’ve tried. If you just went shopping, use one of the plastic bags your stuff came in. That way it can at least get reused once before it clogs up the landfill.
          • The reason for setting the trashcan outside of the bathroom is twofold: it gives you space to work and it signals to others in the household that work is being done in the house possibly inspiring a member of the household chip in elsewhere.
        • spray your natural cleaning solution in several places:
          • top of toilet tank
          • front of tank and handle
          • toilet lid and seat
          • toilet rim
          • into toilet water
          • base of toilet
          • onto floor next to toilet especially in the corners
        • use toilet brush to scrub inside of toilet and rim
          • be sure to get the underside of the rim. That’s where a lot of crud lurks.
        • with microfiber cloth #1, wipe down toilet
          • start from the top of the tank working your way down to the bottom hitting the rim and base along the way
        • spray cleaning solution on microfiber cloth #2 and wipe bathroom door handles and floor surrounding toilet
        • hard water stains present? Learn how to remove hard water stains non toxically.

That’s it for the toilet and its surrounding area. Typically, I would reserve the entire bathroom floor for cleaning as the last step of cleaning the house. Knowing the floor around the toilet has already been cleaned makes the ensuing mop up much easier. More on that in a following post.

If you feel this post has been of value to you, please share it with your friends, family, children, coworkers or anyone else who could benefit from a little extra knowledge.
