Probiotic Cleaners Better Than Chemicals?

How I Discovered Probiotics for Cleaning

I talk a lot about probiotics. Not so much the dietary supplement, but probiotic cleaners themselves. Some may think I get sponsored by the manufacturer, but I don’t. Probiotics have become my favorite, go to cleaner which I truly believe in. They have changed the way I think about cleaning. After being in an industry for over 10 years, change can be difficult.

Putting myself through college as a janitor many years ago, we used some of the harshest chemicals known to man. For example, to strip floors of wax, we would use a solution of nearly straight ammonia. The burning of my nostrils and upper air way I can still remember today. That couldn’t have been good for my health nor anyone else that encountered those toxic fumes in the ensuing days. Couple experiences like that with my mother’s battle with breast cancer which was likely caused by chemicals in the environment (she is a cosmetologist), and I couldn’t wait to get away from the use of chemicals when I finally started my own cleaning company.

The Search for Probiotic Cleaners

The search for effective nontoxic cleaners was a long and arduous one. From vinegar to “green” and “eco-friendly” cleaners, many of them were not effective enough to service my customers’ demands. Only the customers who understood the benefits of nontoxic cleaning stuck with me. The customers placing more of an emphasis on aesthetics rather than health didn’t last as customers very long. In order to grow my business, I had to find another cleaner that was both nontoxic yet extremely effective at cleaning.

Low and behold a great business associate of mine mentioned something about probiotic cleaners. I likened them to enzymes at the time and wasn’t a full believer until I did the research weeks later. What I learned about probiotics was mind blowing. I was literally up all night reading research studies, whitepapers, definitions, anything I could find about probiotics and how they worked because I was so fascinated. For instance, did you know probiotic bacteria can actually communicate with other microorganisms and influence their behavior (i.e. when to infect or not)? What chemical can do that?

Experimenting with Probiotic Cleaners

After a couple nights of this, I finally bit the bullet and bought some probiotic cleaners to try from Chrisal. Once my package arrived, I couldn’t wait to put the new-found cleaner to the test. I cleaned old cutting boards we had laying around. They had just come out of the dishwasher. After a spray of probiotic cleaner, I could see layers of grime “melting” off the surface. The biofilm protecting all those germs was finally breaking down and exposing them to the cleaning agent and probiotic bacteria and finally being destroyed. I didn’t realize they were so dirty.

I went on to clean the whole house. Of which, the results were amazing. Plus there was no smell of fragrance or chemicals. That brings me back to the best part, for the first time in a long time I was able to breathe freely in my own home.

Introducing Probiotic Cleaners

I had to introduce probiotic cleaners to my customers right away. The ones that stayed for the health benefits before now enjoyed a much cleaner home and office. The customers who placed an importance on appearance stuck around and finally understood and appreciated the benefits of nontoxic, beneficial cleaners. Many of them began looking for alternative methods of their own instead of using chemicals between cleanings.

With probiotics, I now clean for health. The great appearance of things is a mere side effect.
